For years, my professional and private life was fueled by one silent sentence: “You must be strong. No one else will do it for you.”
This was my armor. And for a long time, it worked perfectly. I got promoted, I managed teams, I “handled” everything that came my way. I was the picture of independence and efficiency. Until the day my nervous system finally pulled the emergency brake and said: “Enough.”
The Heavy Armor and The Hole
That was the moment the armor became too heavy to carry. I fell into The Hole. Burnout isn’t just fatigue; it is a state of deep freeze. I lay at the bottom, feeling like I had failed. I felt that my strength—that quality I had prized above all else—was a lie.
Meeting Interpersonal Neurobiology
It was there, in that dark “hole,” that I met Interpersonal Neurobiology (IPNB). It changed everything. I understood that my “strength” was actually a defense mechanism—a classic avoidant attachment style. Somewhere along the way, my brain had learned that closeness was dangerous and that self-sufficiency was the only viable survival option.
From Independence to Co-regulation
Thanks to working with Sarah Peyton’s method, I began to slowly climb out of the hole, micro-step by micro-step. But I didn’t return to my old version of “strength.” I didn’t put the armor back on.
Instead, I discovered a new quality: co-regulation. I understood, not just intellectually but in my body, that we are pack mammals. We need other nervous systems to feel safe. We are not built for isolation; we are built for connection.
A New Definition of Strength
Today I know that true strength isn’t about gritting your teeth and doing it alone. True strength is the ability to say:
“This is hard for me. I need help.”
It was the hardest lesson of my life, but thanks to it, I now accompany myself with kindness instead of a whip.
With kindness, Jo

Dzień, w którym przestałam “zarządzać”. Moja droga od zbroi do bliskości.

“Musisz być silna. Nikt inny za Ciebie tego nie zrobi.”
To zdanie było moim paliwem przez lata. Moją mantrą. Moją zbroją. W świecie korporacji, funduszy inwestycyjnych i zarządzania, ta zbroja działała perfekcyjnie.
Wpadłam do Dziury. To stan fizjologicznego zamrożenia (freeze).
Spotkanie z prawdą (i neuronauką)
Prawdziwa siła to odwaga, by powiedzieć:
